You can spend countless hours perfecting the interior design of your home but at the end of the day, it’s the exterior that pulls them in. Instead of devoting all of your time to perfecting what’s on the other side of the front door, take step back for a second and really take a look at your home from the curb. How does it look? If you were just a passerby, what would you think about the people who lived inside?
So many people don’t even give their home’s curb appeal a second thought until it comes time to sell. However, we feel as though you should proud of how your home and yard look while you’re actually living there. Here are a few DIY projects you can tackle over the weekend to step your landscaping game up a notch:
Water Features – The great thing about installing a water feature in your yard is that it can be as complex or simple as you want it to be and it will still be a beautiful and interesting piece. Regardless of whether you choose to go with a simple pond or a larger waterfall structure, water features add intrigue to your home’s overall architecture and create a soothing atmosphere.
Fences – Functionally speaking, fences are ideal for those who want to create a little bit of privacy between themselves and onlookers. However, keep in mind that you don’t always have to have the same fence as your neighbor, the guy down the street, and your friend Jim down the way. When you’re building a fence completely on your own, it can be as tall as you want, the posts can be laid vertically or horizontally, they can be wood stained or painted blue – whatever you want.
Landscaping – While some may view landscaping as simply planting a few flowers here and a shrub or two there, if you really want to take your curb appeal to the next level, remember that landscaping is what you make it – you don’t have to hire an outside party to get the job down. Take a look at a few gardening magazines or gather some inspiration from HGTV.com and go from there.
